When I rejected the Orthodox Christian Church over 50 years ago, little did I know what I would be doing and thinking today. On April 5, 2.5 billion Christians will celebrate Easter Sunday. My rejection of orthodoxy was based on my study of comparative religion, Humanism, and Science. In the last few decades, a relatively new theology has burst forth. It is called “Deconstruction” or Progressive Christianity. A good part of its basis postulates that what has been accepted as the “Truth” couldn’t be further from it. 

Let’s face it: Theology is speculation. With progressive, critical thinking, this speculation is taking on a whole new understanding. We now have re-framed Jesus and his “mission.” Jesus didn’t preach belief systems; he embodied a way of being. He chose Presence over performance, Compassion over
compliance, Courage over belonging…a fully Alive human being, who would not cooperate with
dehumanization! (He sounds like a “model” Unitarian Universalist to me.)

It occurs to me that it may be a good idea to revisit this profound prophet to see what may have been missed before he was rejected by many “modern” thinkers. I encourage you to read the thoughts of John Shelby Spong and Jim Palmer, just to name a couple.

As this Easter Season comes and once again goes, I encourage you with this scripture…
Act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your “God.” — Micha 6:8
