We use many earth centered metaphors to express ourselves. “The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.” “Pretty as a peach.” “Two peas in a pod.” The expressions seem endless. We just seem to have a powerful identification to all the things of Mother Earth.
In many sacred texts, there are expressions of our intimate connection to the Interconnected Web of Life. We are encouraged to “bloom where we are planted.” There is much advice about garden weeding, necessary for the plants to grow into healthy specimens. Nature appears to be inviting all of humanity to flourish together. The message, even in metaphor, is the same: unite, grow, cooperate, and flourish!
All too often, the haters and the naysayers strive to convince us that our efforts are futile, that no matter how hard we try to plant the seeds of Love and Compassion, the Weeds of Discord will always find a way to destroy our efforts. I have learned that as long as you “stick to the program,” you can overcome anything that comes between you and your loving, compassionate intentions.
As we begin our yearly hiatus, the question is always the same: How have I grown? Have I truly helped others grow? Are we flourishing? As someone who seeks Progress rather than Perfection, I say we are fine and flourishing! Don’t overthink Life. Enjoy being you! If you do your best, Life will do the rest. If you plant Love, you will reap Love!
Enjoy your summer. Practice your spiritual disciplines to prepare yourself for coming back to church for deeper growth and more joyous flourishing.
I bid you Peace,
Rev. Ron
