When Gratitude just isn’t enough

The religious, the media pundits, and the moralists at large will be reminding us what a great country we have and all the blessings we have been given by “Our Creator.” The implication also comes under the radar: that those who have far less are not as blessed by said “Creator.”

We are taught by said “Religious” that all are created in the image and likeness of God and that all are equal. The simple reality is…Nothing could be further from the Truth!

Even as I type these words, Christian Nationalism seems to be taking hold of large segments of our population. Many are deeply concerned and afraid for our individual and national future. It will be mighty hard for us religious liberals to choke down our turkey and/or tofu with the specter of this fearful new reality. YET…There is much room for HOPE.

We must commit ourselves to our Values like never before.

An old Jewish axiom reminds us…This, too, shall pass. It is what has happened throughout human history.

Everything comes down to CHOICE.  We choose COMPASSION. We stand on the Side of Love. We are committed to a World That Works for Everyone—NO EXCEPTIONS! If it were easy, everyone would be doing it.

This Thanksgiving (Friendsgiving) let us be truly grateful that we Stand on the Right Side of History. Let us be grateful for the power of compassionate commitment. We will stand Peacefully, but fiercely, on the Truths that NO Human is Illegal! Woman are in charge of their own bodies! Science is REAL! Diversity is to be Celebrated! Black Lives Matter! Disabilities are Respected! Kindness is Everything! Hate has No Home! Love is LOVE!

These Values and the Commitment to them are truly what we must be grateful for. May you revel in this commitment as you celebrate this Thanksgiving!

Yours in compassionate service,
Rev. Ron, Minister
