Being present

Dear Ones,

In the midst of all the seasonal excitement and festivities yet to come, the month of December can be filled to the brim. Yet it overflows with opportunities to practice the spiritual disciplines of attentiveness and presence. In the midst of dashing from place to place and lists of details to attend to that seem never ending, it is especially challenging to stay present to those right in front of us, to practice being present in the very moment that exists, the RIGHT NOW.

Here are a few recommendations from a very wise 90 year old:

  • Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere;
  • Life is too short to waste time hating anyone;
  • Make peace with your past so you won’t screw up the present;
  • All that truly matters in the end is that you loved;
  • Growing old beats the alternative—dying young;
  • You don’t have to win every argument. Agree to disagree;
  • When in doubt, take the next small step.

Wise words to live by, don’t you agree?

See you in church (or, you know, that other zoomy one!)
